CURRICULUM RESOURCES

The Green Education Foundation -  Sustainability Lesson Clearinghouse: Where K-12 Educators Colloborate - The GEF, in partnership with The Center for Green Schools, has announced the completion of its Clearinghouse project. The Clearinghouse is now home to more than 600 sustainability lessons - available for download. Join the GEF for access to this treasure trove of curriculum material.

Students' Visions and Suggestions for All Schools - a Great Resource!

At the October "Green Your School" Workshop, the 90 students from a variety of area schools participated in a "Sharing Session," exchanging ideas for where they wanted to see their school go, and suggestions for how to get there. The results have been combined together into a single document that can serve as a roadmap for any school looking for ideas to "green" their schools. Check it out here!

And from that list of suggestions, we created a wonderful visual representation of all the ideas - in a "wordle" form. See it here.

RESOURCES FROM GOVERNMENT AGENCIES:

Check out the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Pathways to Green Schools web portal, which includes resources on curriculum (tied to PA state standards), cafeterias, gardens and energy efficiency.

Be sure to check the recently launched Department of Education “Green Ribbon Schools” Program.  Application information will be available soon!

Look at EPA’s Portfolio Manager Website  for information on EPA’s Energy Star Program for K-12 Schools, http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=k12_schools.bus_schoolsk12

The US Energy Information Administration has lots of great information and resources on its "Energy Kids" website for K-12 educators.

Recyclebank Green School Program awards environmental project grants to schools in Recyclebank curbside recycling communities. The Green Schools Program awards grants of up to $2,500 to schools with innovative approaches to communicating environmental issues.  Each school must be in a community served by Recyclebank home-recycling.  For more information about the program.

RESOURCES FROM ENERGY CONSERVATION ORGANIZATIONS:

The Alliance to Save Energy  is a non-profit organization dedicated to “Creating an Energy Efficient World”, with a website chock full of resources, including energy-related lesson plans.

Many of our Green Schools partner organizations have great resources available on their websites. Here is a sampling:

Middle schools! Be sure to check out the PECO Energizing Education Program!

Ecoexpress has some great environmental educational resources.

Earthforce has environmental service learning projects.

When starting a “Culture of Conservation” campaign, creative messaging is essential.  A publicly available cartoon to get you started:
